In what was the most successful single charity event in Washington, DC, history, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Washington, Youself Al Otaiba (read more), and his wife, Abeer, along with Fox News anchor Bret Baier and his wife, Amy, hosted a charity ball for the Children’s National Medical Center. The event brought almost 1,000 guests and raised almost $11 million.
This is not the UAE government’s first interaction with Children’s National. In 2009, the government gave $150 million to the hospital to help create the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. Despite the 7,000 mile journey, from the UAE to Washington, DC, hundreds of Emirati children have been treated by the hospital in its over 15 year history. Al Otaiba’s daughter was one of them. In 2013, she underwent a successful surgery. Although Al Otaiba admitted he never thought his family would need the services of Children’s National, he expressed his gratitude that the hospital was there for his family when they needed it. His experience with Children’s National prompted Al Otaiba to later want to be part of the hospital’s fundraising efforts.
At the event, he said, “Children’s National can meet the needs of every child, especially for the families that can’t afford to pay, and that’s why we’re all here tonight.”
Although the charity event was about raising money for Children’s National Medical Center, it was also an opportunity for those involved to have fun. While some people simply provided flat donations to the hospital, the event also included a live action where $400,000 was raised. Auction items included a black Labrador puppy, which went for $9,000, and a necklace and earrings set that Beyoncé had worn. The jewelry set sold for $75,000 and was donated to a Children’s National patient. The patient had helped design the jewelry and had assisted with the auction.
The night also included food made by celebrity chefs, Wolfgang Puck and Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa. Several celebrities and politicians who were unable to attend the event showed their support through video messages. At the conclusion of dinner, Jennifer Hudson provided a surprise concert for all those in attendance.

When you think of a typical office type work environment, the image of cubicles in a large building, with boring internal design usually come to mind. This is based on the fact that most regular offices are completely minimal when it comes to their interior design. However, technology has really changed things and a handful of companies have pave the way to making office space more aesthetically pleasing. The trend may have started in the Bay Area, where the majority of the tech companies out there hold their headquarters and main offices, but the reality is that a ton of industries are starting to see the potential in upgrading their offices.
One particular company that has taken things to the next level is EnTrust Capital. While various companies such as Google and Apple have revolutionized the work place, EnTrust has truly mixed luxury with the common workplace. They started out by implementing a stunning office space of approximately seventeen and a half thousand feet of modernized, top of the line interior, which serves as the base for a lot of their top level employees. This type of thinking, when it comes to increasing the pleasure that the typical employee feels at work, based on the feelings that they get from their work space, has really increased over the last several years.
It has been proven time and time again that when an environment is pleasing to the eye and comfortable, there is a drastic increase in the efficiency of any given person, as well as a business as a whole. This is a trend that is not going to go away anytime soon and in fact, many businesses are implementing all sorts of things to make their employees feel more comfortable at work. A ton of the tech companies have all sorts of games that they can play, including ping pong, and various other games at work, as well as all sorts of other fun things that naturally make a person feel good on the inside. Work is work to some degree, but if a person is in a boring setting that is not appealing, there is no doubt that they are not going to work to their full potential. Integrating these types of designs increases the propensity that an employee is going to want to come to work and do the best that they can, which is why this trend will only increase.

From HuffPost Healthy Living:
U.S. News evaluated and ranked 38 diets with input from a panel of health experts. To be top-rated, a diet had to be relatively easy to follow, nutritious, safe and effective for weight loss and preventing diabetes and heart disease. The government-endorsed Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) snagged the top spot.
DASH was developed to fight high blood pressure, not as an all-purpose diet. But it certainly looked like an all-star to our panel of experts, who gave it high marks for its nutritional completeness, safety, ability to prevent or control diabetes and role in supporting heart health. Though obscure, it beat out a field full of better-known diets.
Overall rank: 1
Overall score: 4.1 out of 5
#2 (tie) MIND Diet
The MIND diet takes two proven diets – DASH and Mediterranean – and zeroes in on the foods in each that specifically affect brain health. It made an impressive debut to the 2016 rankings, shooting up to second place overall, tying with the TLC diet. It’s a healthy, sensible plan with science behind it.

Located just minutes from Washington, D.C in Northern Virginia, McLean is one of the most exclusive and prestigious enclaves on the East coast. As a result of its proximity to our nation’s capitol, McLean is home foreign diplomats, government officials, and members of Congress. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, and the United Arab Emirates Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba are just some of the many powerful people who are fortunate enough to call Mclean home.
Among the most celebrated and costly homes in McLean are those that sit on the Potomac River. With an eastern exposure and stunning views of not only the Potomac but Washington as well, homes along the river seldom sell for less than $3 million.
Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba https://about.me/AmbassadorYousefAlOtaiba and his wife Abeer, an engineer by training, are among those fortunate enough to live on the Potomac. The Al Otaibas share their beautifully decorated home with their two children Omar and Samia. Contemporarily styled with distinct Arab influences and breathtaking views of the Potomac, their home is among McLean’s most beautiful.
The Al Otaiba’s McLean oasis is a well-deserved one; both the Ambassador and his wife are heavily involved in DC’s philanthropic scene. In 2014 the couple, along with their friends, Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier and his wife, Amy, held one of the most successful fundraisers in DC history. Their charity gala for Children’s National Hospital raised a staggering $10.7 million. In addition to supporting a variety of causes in the DC area, the Al Otaibas aren’t strangers to lending a helping hand to other areas of the country as well. After the Joplin tornado the UAE embassy donated laptops for every high school student in the city and the embassy has been funding the creation of soccer fields throughout the country.
Given the small size of the UAE, it has made a huge impact on the lives of U.S citizens. By reinforcing the bilateral relationship between the US and the UAE through gracious acts of charity, the Al Otaibas have strengthened diplomatic ties and have improved the lives of many.

For millions of Americans, a home will be the biggest investment of their lives. So, when it’s time to sell, it’s smart to take steps to optimize the return on that investment.
With the real estate market on a steady climb back to solid ground, more people are feeling comfortable enough to explore the option of selling. If you’re flirting with the idea of listing your home, it’s important to outshine the competition.
Here are eight home improvement investments that offer sellers the highest return, with all figures coming from a 2015 Remodeling magazine survey:
A coat of paint gives you a lot of bang for your home-improvement buck. Painting a room is economical, and it is a project most folks can handle without hiring a contractor.
If you’re selling, focus on rich neutral colors inside the home. It’s OK to push beyond the standard colors of builder’s beige and off-white. With a little experimentation and a keen eye, browns, greens and grays can become part of a contemporary neutral color scheme that will highlight the best features of your home and impress potential buyers.

The rituals of fall include sending kids back to school, raking leaves and cheering on the hometown football team. In addition, a new fall tradition has emerged for America’s nearly 74 million homeowners — home improvement.
This fall promises to be particularly popular for home projects. Lower gas prices are boosting people’s discretionary income and Metrostudy’s latest Residential Remodeling Index points to a continued rise in activity.
Like many trends, there isn’t one particular reason fall has emerged as a popular time for home improvement, several factors play a role.
Energy efficiency is top of mind
With colder weather on the horizon, homeowners shudder at the thought of higher heating costs. They upgrade windows, layer in more insulation, service or replace old furnaces and, in some cases, do all of the above.
The weather is nice
Home improvement projects can be hard and even grueling work, particularly for DIYers. Lower temperatures and humidity create a much more comfortable environment for getting things done (and rhetorically keeping your cool when obstacles inevitably arrive).
The holiday entertaining wow factor
Everyone wants their home to sparkle when they welcome family and friends during the holidays. Completing a home improvement project during the fall sets up a big reveal when the holidays roll around.

Each society is made up of the people that inhabit the region and everyone is responsible for the overall stability and comfort in the area. Whether you are interested in devoting your time to a cause, you are bored and looking for a hobby, or you want to help improve your community, use these suggestions for learning how to do your part in society.
Join a Neighborhood Association
Find out if the area you live in has a neighborhood association. These groups are often take it upon themselves to better their community through various activities. This can include planting flowers or trees in distressed areas, cleaning up uncared for locations, and organizing a neighborhood watch to cut down on crime in the area. Most neighborhood associations are loosely organized groups that meet once or twice a month and come up with a variety of activities to help cleanup the neighborhood.
Join a Local Community Group
If your neighborhood does not have their own association, then another way to help society is to join a local community group. There are many community groups that provide outreach and perform some of the same activities as neighborhood associations; however, community groups may receive funding from the local government and have more opportunities to carry out larger outreach and cleanup programs.
Join a Charity
In keeping with the theme of joining a group, there should be plenty of charities to choose from. In addition to donating your time to a charity, you could also donate money. Also, unlike community groups, charities tend to be focused on one cause. This allows you to find a cause that has meaning to you. Take your time and research a handful of charities before choosing one or more to join or donate money to.
Run for Office
If you really think you could make a difference, you could consider running for local office. You could try to join your city council or other local government. This can be difficult without experience; though, it is not impossible. If you have a good platform to run on and have noticed a lot of concerns in your local community and society that you would like addressed then taking office could provide you the opportunity to actually do something about these concerns.
Donate Blood and Sell Plasma
Hospitals are always in need of blood and plasma. In most areas, healthy adults are allowed to donate blood and sell their plasma. Donating means that you will not be compensated for your time, but with plasma you will generally receive some sort of payment. Before donating blood or selling plasma, you will require a quick examination and will have to fill out a form to ensure you are fit for selling and donating. There a limits placed on how often you can do this, so check with your hospital to find out when you can come back.
Donate Used Items
Instead of having a garage sale or throwing out old clothes and household goods you could always donate them to a local goodwill organization or other group that sells or distributes items to those that are less fortunate. You can donate just about any non-consumable item, including clothing, furniture, cooking appliances and utensils, books, tools, electronics, blankets, and other items that you no longer have use for.
It does not take much to do something to better society. Just start by donating your time and energy some sort of cause or local group. Most people find a great sense of satisfaction from helping out society. Give it a try, you may be surprised to learn how rewarding it can be.
